Southampton Airport Noise Insulation Scheme: Acoustic Window Installation

Southampton Airport logo

Client: Southampton Airport
Project: Airport Noise Insulation Scheme
Location: Southampton, Hampshire
Completed: November 2025

Helping Southampton Residents Reduce Aircraft Noise

As Southampton Airport develops, managing aircraft noise remains an important consideration for nearby communities. The airport’s Noise Insulation Scheme helps eligible homeowners reduce the impact of aircraft noise by improving their properties.

In November 2025, NewFrame installed acoustic windows in homes included in the scheme, helping residents enjoy quieter, more comfortable living spaces.

With previous experience working on noise insulation schemes at Heathrow and London City airports, our team brought specialist knowledge of acoustic glazing and noise reduction to the project.

Specialist Acoustic Windows & Ventilation

The project involved installing high-performance acoustic double glazing and sound-reducing ventilation to habitable rooms, including bedrooms and living areas.

To deliver the required acoustic performance, we installed:

  • REHAU casement windows: Quality window systems designed to accommodate the specified acoustic glazing.

  • Pilkington Optiphon acoustic glass: 8.8mm laminated acoustic glass incorporated into double-glazed units, with a specified sound insulation rating of 38dB (Rw + Ctr).

  • SIEGENIA AEROPAC through-wall ventilators: Specialist ventilation units that provide fresh air while helping limit external noise transmission, offering an alternative to conventional window trickle vents.

Together, these products were selected to improve acoustic comfort without compromising essential household ventilation.

A Noticeable Improvement for Local Homes

The results were immediately noticeable, with residents reporting a significant improvement in the noise levels experienced inside their homes.

The benefits extended beyond aircraft noise. Several properties were also located close to railway lines and a busy bus terminal, meaning the acoustic glazing helped reduce everyday disturbance from trains and road traffic.

The project demonstrates how carefully specified acoustic windows and double glazing can make a meaningful difference to properties affected by external noise.
